About

Built by a coach. For coaches.

The Possession Report didn't come out of a lab. It came out of a film room — built by someone who spent a career on the bench, learning what the box score never told him.

Coach Herman “Coach J” Johnson Jr.

The Possession Report was founded and built by Herman Johnson Jr. — a New Jersey basketball lifer. He spent three years at St. Anthony High School in Jersey City under Hall of Fame coach Bob Hurley, three years at St. Patrick's in Elizabeth under Kevin Boyle, and seven seasons as head coach at Northern Burlington County Regional High School in Columbus, New Jersey.

There he coached his son Jayson Johnson — now a marketing manager with New Balance. He also coached with SportsU, one of the top AAU programs in the country. He's the father of Matt Johnson — a two-time national champion at UConn, who coached a season at Princeton and is now an assistant coach at Boston College.

He built PBiR to put real possession-level intelligence in every coach's hands — the read he always wished he'd had on the bench.
